Our Mission

The Charlie Parker Institute of Jazz is a registered 501c3 not-for-profit corporation designed to help at risk youth develop positive self-esteem, self-discipline, and life skills training through the performance of jazz music.  Our mission is to provide youth with performance and life opportunities in Kansas City and beyond.  Practicing jazz artists work with aspiring youth to prepare them for live performances locally, nationally, and internationally.

Program Profile

This year-round program will expose youth to the legacy and history of jazz music, jazz performance, interaction with jazz masters, and cultural exchange opportunities.  In addition to jazz education programming, youth will learn valuable life skills necessary for success in all areas of life: working as a team, communication skills, creative thinking and reasoning, and problem solving.  Specific areas of life skills training include: drug and alcohol prevention, character building, leadership development, etiquette and manners, and functional life skills training.
